Summary Methylene Blue Kit
The methylene blue dye test is especially designed to determine the capacity of a clay to absorb cations from a solution and thereby predict how the clay will react in its intended use.

Summary Methylene Blue
The Methylene Blue capacity of drilling fluid is an indication of the amount of reactive clays (bentonite and/or drill solids) present as determined by the methylene blue test. The methylene blue capacity provides an estimate of the total cation exchange capacity (CEC) of the drilling fluid solids. Methylene blue capacity and cation exchange capacity are not necessarily equivalent. The methylene blue capacity is normally somewhat less that the actual cation exchange capacity. Like all cation exchange methods the methylene blue test measures the total exchange capacity of the reactive clay in a system. The reactive portions of the clay are primarily involved. Materials such as finely ground limestone sand and barite do not absorb methylene blue.
